Appointments, assignments announced for Diocesan Council
January 15, 2015
Bishop vonRosenberg, in consultation with the Diocesan Council, has announced several appointments and assignments as part of the ongoing organization of the Council to better serve the needs of the diocese.
These assignments are part of an intentional plan by the Bishop to form committees as the needs of the diocese become known, rather than re-creating committees that historically existed before the 2013 reorganization of the diocese. In December, the Bishop directed each of the committees to consider issues of membership, terms and rotation of members for their groups, and report to the Diocesan Council in February.
The groups named by the Bishop include:
This committee has been operational since 2013, and its membership and roles have continued to develop. The Finance Committee meets regularly to review balance sheets, income and expenses, and develops the budgets that are presented at the annual Diocesan Conventions. It reports to Diocesan Council and includes both Diocesan Council members and others from the diocese, with diocesan Treasurer the Rev. Dr. Jim Taylor as an ex officio member.
The bishop has assigned this group to work with diocesan staff to identify and create job descriptions and duties for each position, consider tools for personnel evaluations, review salaries and make recommendations on appropriate compensation, information which can then be relayed to the Finance Committee. The Bishop has appointed Jim Gettys, Virginia Weaver, and Carol Grish to serve on this committee, which will report to him as an advisory body. Ted Halkyard and Robert Moffitt are also serving on this committee.
This group will work with Lauren Kinard, Executive Assistant to the Bishop, on reviewing matters such as health insurance plans for lay employees and clergy, and developing diocesan policies on minimum coverage. The Bishop has appointed the Rev. Jeff Richardson to this committee, along with Lynn Hopkins and Doug Roderick. Kathy North of CPG will be serving as an adviser. The committee will report to Diocesan Council.
Committee on mission congregations
A group, whose formal name will be finalized later, is being formed to gather information from missions regarding their current and future goals, objectives and needs. This information will help in the formation of diocesan goals for being able to support missions. Bishop vonRosenberg appointed Archdeacon Callie Walpole to lead in the formation of this committee.
The Bishop has named the Rev. Canon Michael Wright to serve as Diocesan Liturgical Officer. Canon Wright will chair the Liturgical Committee, which will report to the bishop as an advisory body and will work with him on diocesan liturgies such as renewal of ordination vows, celebrations of new ministries, ordinations and Convention Eucharists.
