All Saints, HHI gives $20,000 challenge check for Diocesan Endowment Fund
February 3, 2015
All Saints Episcopal Church on Hilton Head Island has presented an initial gift of $20,000 to The Episcopal Church in South Carolina, the first installment in the parish’s pledge of $100,000 for an endowment fund for the diocese.
Members of the All Saints Capital Fundraising Leadership Team presented the check on January 30 to the Rt. Rev. Charles vonRosenberg, Bishop of the Episcopal Church in South Carolina. According to the Rev. Richard Lindsey, Rector of All Saints, “This check represents the down-payment of a three-year pledge of $100,000 that will go toward this endowment fund.”
Bishop vonRosenberg said the endowment will be used to generate funding for a full-time bishop for the diocese. Bishop vonRosenberg was the retired Bishop of East Tennessee in January 2013 when he was elected at a special convention to lead the diocese as provisional bishop. Currently the office is funded as a part-time position.
All Saints presented the challenge check at a special reception at the Wexford Plantation Clubhouse on Hilton Head Island, an event underwritten by a parishioner. Attendees included the Bishop’s wife, Annie vonRosenberg, and many members of the All Saints Leadership Circle who responded generously to the church’s recent “More Than We Can Imagine” Capital Fundraising Campaign.
“I hope that All Saints’ initial contribution to the Diocesan Endowment Fund will challenge other churches and worshipping communities to also make significant contributions to this most worthy cause,” the Rev. Lindsey said.
