Diocesan Grant Program
for Missions and Worship Groups

There is currently not a

Grant Explanation and Purpose
Monetary grants are awarded within The Episcopal Church in South Carolina for initiatives that will enhance the mission and ministry of the Diocese, with special consideration given for awarding grants to missions and worship groups. Through this grant program, the diocese identifies innovative and worthwhile ministries in a mission or worship group where a relatively modest amount of grant money can make a significant difference. Grant requests can be submitted for, but not limited to, clergy, lay salaries, rent and other initiatives that will enhance parish life.

Grant Application Dates 2016
Deadline Date - November 1, 2016 for December Distribution

PLEASE NOTE: Applications must be submitted by email or received in the mail by the application deadline. Paper applications must be received at the Diocesan Office by 12:00 pm on the application deadline.

Eligibility Criteria
Grants through this program are made to missions and worship groups within the Episcopal Church in South Carolina, not individuals or other Diocesan entities. Eligibility for a grant under this program requires that a mission or worship group must be a functioning mission or worship group in good standing in the Episcopal Church in South Carolina.

Primary Considerations
When evaluating applications, careful consideration is given by the missions grant committee to the following factors.
  • The potential impact of the proposed initiative to the mission or worship group.
  • The evidence of the need for proposed grant.
  • The degree to which the grant will enhance the mission or worship group.
  • The number of people that will benefit from the grant.
  • The extent of volunteer involvement and broad support for the mission or worship group.
  • The support for a grant from priest-in-charge/vicar, where applicable, and vestry.

Program Exclusions
This grant program (The Diocesan Grant Program) does not fund:  Endowment Funds, Fundraising Campaigns, Building Campaigns, Debt Retirement, Capital Requests

Application Submission
All applications must either be submitted by email or mailed using the attached PDF form, which describes in detail the needed information.  Please invest your time in content and mission vision, rather than presentation. Do not provide extraneous materials that have not been requested in the grant application.

Conditions for Receiving a Grant Award
Grant announcements are made shortly after the missions grant committee meets. An award letter or email is sent to mission/worship group who are awarded a grant. The letter will include amount awarded along with the expected date of funds. A report on the project will be due at a semi-annual meeting of representatives of all missions. The Diocesan Grants Committee has a limited amount of funding available for this grant cycle.

Application Frequency
At this time there is no restriction on the frequency with which an eligible mission/worship group may submit grant applications. Ordinarily mission or worship groups cannot ask for more than $40,000 over a 3-year period.  This application form will be reviewed annually.

Thank you for your interest in the Diocesan Grant Program.
If you have any questions or need assistance filling out the grant application, please contact Andrea McKellar at amckellar@episcopalchurchsc.org. You can also call the Diocesan Office at 843-259-2016.
