Sharing our storiesIn thinking about why it's important to support The Diocese of South Carolina, Episcopalians from our congregations have been telling us what the continuation of the diocese has meant to them. Below, we are sharing some of these stories that help tell the larger story of our diocese.
From Pat Neumann The Episcopal Church on Edisto Who ever thought that we would be doing these things? That we would need to leave our beautiful, comfortable church building in order to worship as Episcopalians? That we would be celebrating the Eucharist in a BBQ restaurant? That we would be involved in cease and desist orders, depositions and giving testimony in a trial? No one did. But we have done these things and had many other experiences that were new and somewhat unexpected. Although The Episcopal Church on Edisto has been blessed with the assistance of two wonderful retired priests who call this island home, we have often needed help and support from our diocese in numerous matters and in countless situations. The Episcopal Church in South Carolina has been a constant source of inspiration, a continual spring of hope and an ever present supply of answers to both serious and mundane questions for The Episcopal Church on Edisto. Bishop vonRosenberg is always willing to listen, to meet with us, to offer guidance and advice. Archdeacon Walpole has helped us through so many situations and has provided pastoral care to members of our congregation on repeated occasions. Lauren, Holly and Andrea are always quick to offer their support at practically any hour of the day and sometimes the night. It is not easy to start a church from scratch but with the support and encouragement of The Episcopal Church in South Carolina, we have done it. God has put the right people in the right place at the right time and we give thanks continually for this. From Frances Elmore
St. Catherine's, Florence “Accessibility” is the word which springs to mind when we at St. Catherine’s think of the Episcopal Church in South Carolina. That openness and readiness to respond to Episcopalians as soon as humanly possible began with the arrival of Bishop vonRosenberg on the scene, and remains strongly reflected by those recruited to the TECSC staff. St. Catherine’s continues to call on them for advice, assistance, guidance, and they respond with encouragement and inspiration as well. We realize that without their help we would not be the thriving mission that we are today. |
